Event culminated with a performance from European and British band champions The Cory Band.
15 brass bands from all over Europe gathered over the weekend to compete for a cash prize and a recording contract, in a unique brass band contest sponsored by DFDS Seaways.
The ‘X Factor style’ contest was held in Dover and saw bands from all sections competing for the sought after prize, performing three pieces in front of a panel of adjudicators.
A Belgian band, the ‘Brass Band Heist’ was crowned as the winner, and a prize was also awarded to the best soloist, Tetsura Okamura, from the Regent Brass Band in North London (who, along with the winner will also receive a recording contract with New Eden Studio in Dover). The Brass Band Gent was named the best non-Championship band.
The event culminated in an evening concert, featuring the European and British Brass Band Open Champions, the Cory Band as lead performers.
Graham Harvey, Contest Director, said: “The competition was a hard fought contest, and the calibre of bands that we had were extremely high. The Brass Band Heist just managed to pip the other bands to the post, but we want to say congratulations to all that took part. We were also delighted to welcome the Cory Band to the evening concert, which was the perfect ending to what turned out to be a thrilling day.”
Andrew Kelly, Marketing Manager, DFDS Seaways English Channel, said: “We were delighted to support this event, encouraging musicians to get together from the UK and Europe to compete in Dover. The event was a great success and we were extremely impressed with the performances from the bands that took part
