- New Louvre-Lens gallery opens in December
- First major exhibition will focus on the Renaissance
For those looking for a cultural break, travel with cross-Channel ferry operator DFDS Seaways and visit the all-new Louvre-Lens. This cultural institution opens to the public on December 12th and is set to join the list of prestigious art galleries around the world. This is a must see for serious and amateur art lovers alike.
As an extension to the legendary Louvre gallery in Paris, the museum’s ‘Galerie du Temps’ will be home to a selection of 250 works loaned from the Louvre’s core holding, on a five year semi-permanent basis. In addition to the pieces, the museum will also hold two major temporary exhibitions a year, with the inaugural exhibition focusing on the Renaissance.
Located in the industrial city of Lens in the Pas-de-Calais region, less than an hour’s drive from the ports of Dunkirk and Calais, the Louvre-Lens will be a great destination for a day-trip or mini-break.
Chris Newey, international passenger director for the English Channel at DFDS Seaways, said: “With the imminent opening of the Louvre-Lens, there has never been a better time for culture vultures to travel with us to northern France. And with no baggage restrictions, it’s also a great time to stock up on some French wine and goodies for Christmas while you are there!.”
