DFDS Seaways donates £1,000 to Save the Children
Date published: 18 April 2011
Filling in questionnaires can sometimes seem like a chore, but for passengers on DFDS Seaways’ cross Channel ferries there is an added incentive.
For each customer service questionnaire completed by passengers on its Dover to Dunkirk crossing, DFDS Seaways donates 20p to Save the Children.
This month saw DFDS Seaways reach £1,000 in donations from the questionnaire, and to celebrate, Andrew Kelly, Marketing and PR Manager for the English Channel, presented Lynn Whittaker from Save the Children with a cheque. The presentation took place onboard one of the DFDS Seaways ferries in the Port of Dover. The ferry’s captain, Captain Williams also took part in the presentation.
Lynn Whittaker, community fundraising executive for London and the South East, said:
"This money will make such a difference to the world's most vulnerable children. Simple and inexpensive treatments save lives and it is local fundraising donations like this that make Save the Children's essential work possible.
“All funds raised by DFDS Seaways will go towards Save the Children’s new campaign No Child Born to Die, which aims to dramatically cut the number of children under the age of five dying from simple complications such as pneumonia and diarrhoea. If children were routinely vaccinated, the death toll, which currently sits at 8 million children a year, could be cut by up to a quarter. "
Andrew Kelly, Marketing and PR Manager for the English Channel, said:
“Save the Children is one of our nominated charities as we recognise the vital work it does with vulnerable children in this country and overseas. We are delighted to be able to help support such a valuable cause, and thoroughly encourage our customers to fill out these questionnaires so that we can ensure our support is ongoing.”
