DFDS Seaways confirms Deal Seaways will stay on the Dover to Calais route until next year, when she will be replaced with a vessel that will fit its ambition of continuously enhancing the service to the wishes of its customers.
During spring this year, DFDS Seaways, succeeded in securing Deal Seaways as the second ship on its new Dover to Calais service, based on a charter contract. According to the charter agreement, DFDS Seaways will be able to operate the ship on the route until March 2013 when, at the latest, she will be delivered back to the owners and replaced by another ship.
Carsten Jensen, Senior Vice President English Channel at DFDS Seaways, commented:
“We have been really pleased with the reception from our customers in relation to our service with two ships on our new route between Dover and Calais. Customer volumes have shown a positive trend and the Calais service continues to be a key route for us.
“We are committed to enhancing our service offerings on the Dover-Calais route and were pleased with having Deal Seaways available to us during the important high season and until next year . We now have sufficient time to replace her with a ship that will optimally fit the route for the long- term and enable us to fulfil our ambitions of creating a n excellent service on the route in accordance with the wishes of our customers . We want to a first class provider between Dover and Calais as we are – and have been for many years - on our Dover to Dunkirk service, which operates with three ships.”
DFDS Seaways will announce when it has found a ship with the right qualities to fulfil its ambitions in due course.
DFDS Seaways launched its Dover-Calais service in partnership with LD Lines earlier this year, adding up to 20 sailings a day on its English Channel service. As a result, DFDS Seaways now offers up to 44 sailings a day between Dover and France (including Dunkirk).
