BBC DOCUMENTARY HAILS DFDS SEAWAYS STAFF AS FOOD HEROES
The onboard team from cruise ferry operator DFDS Seaways have been hailed food heroes by Tyne Port Health Authority in a BBC One documentary.
Entitled ‘Food Fighters’, the documentary series aims to reveal the checks that go into making food safe, whilst uncovering the good and bad of the food world. The kitchen and four restaurants onboard Princess Seaways were filmed during one of DFDS Seaways’ daily crossings from Newcastle to Holland and have been hailed as an example of best practice.
A camera crew captured the journey of the food from its supplier delivery onto the ship at the port in North Shields, through to preparation in the kitchens and finally onto the buffet and dining tables ready to eat!
The documentary praised the work of DFDS Seaways’ Danish-born head chef, Tommy Aakjær whose responsibility is to ensure that all food onboard the ship is safe for passengers to eat. As part of the episode, a food hygiene inspection by Ed Wingfield from Tyne Port Health Authority, saw the ship sail through all checks and was deemed to have excellent standards onboard.
BBC One’s Food Fighters runs throughout July on Mondays at 11am. The episode featuring DFDS Seaways can be viewed on BBC iPlayer: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b012gjlz/Food_Fighters_Series_2_Episode_1/
