Your pet needs a holiday too!
50% off pet travel with DFDS Seaways during National Pet Month.
Almost half (around 48%) of the UK population owns a pet* and many owners consider their pet to be part of the family, so why should they miss out on the family holiday? To celebrate National Pet Month this April, DFDS Seaways is offering half price pet travel, so there’s never been a better time to enjoy a relaxing getaway to Europe without leaving anyone behind.
Not only can you create fantastic memories with your family, taking your pet on holiday can be so much easier than you think and you could even save money on kennel or cattery fees! All you need is a pet passport or third country certificate showing that the pet has been micro chipped and vaccinated against rabies.
The Pet Travel Scheme (PETS) is a system that allows pet dogs, cats and ferrets from certain countries to enter the UK without quarantine as long as they meet the rules. It also means that people in the UK can take their furry friends to other European Union (EU) countries, and return with them to the UK. They can also, having taken their dogs, cats and ferrets to certain non-EU countries, bring them back to the UK without the need for quarantine.
Welcomed on all DFDS Seaways routes, your pet will either stay in your car during the crossing or, if you are travelling on the ferry to Holland from Newcastle, there are also a number of kennels available in various sizes that can be pre-booked. You’ll even be able to check on your pet during the crossing to feed, water and walk him.
You’ll also be well looked after on your journey as all DFDS Seaways ferries are equipped with a number of high quality onboard facilities, which range from dedicated children’s areas to onboard shops, bars and restaurants, so your holiday starts as soon as you board the ferry.
The Purrfect Pet Friendly Holiday
If you are looking for that perfect holiday and want to ensure you’re truly relaxed knowing your pet is safe, why not pack up the car or caravan and head off to one of the many pet friendly European campsites or choose a Center Parcs Europe holiday village or Novasol cottage, which accept pets at selected sites and cottages.

Paws For Thought in France
For those based in the south or families who are happy to travel a little further, the channel is one of the quickest ways to reach France. With DFDS Seaways there are four options via the Eastern and Western channel routes (Dover-Dunkirk, Dover-Calais, Newhaven-Dieppe and Portsmouth-Le Havre).
Your dog will need regular breaks when travelling and we recommend Troyes as an ideal pet stop on your journey southeast through France, where your dog will get a warmer welcome than you will! The tourism office greets all dogs with a personal gift pack, which includes a city map marking attractions that welcome dogs, a discount voucher for dog treats, a dog waste bag and a pet magazine. Your dog won’t want to leave! Visit the tourist office at www.tourisme-troyes.com for more information.
An ideal town to soak up the Gallic atmosphere, Le Touquet is less than an hour from Calais and was one of France’s chicest resorts in the 1920s and has been known as Paris-on-Sea since 1912. The vast sandy beach provides plenty of space for your family to relax and play with your dog, however, if the heat gets too much for your pooch, the small pine forest by the dunes is the perfect place to roam in the shade. As is the norm in France, dogs must be leashed and restrictions may be in place in peak season. Visit the tourist office at www.letouquet.com for further details.
