Please note you will receive any prepaid vouchers at check-in. We would ask you to carefully check your Confirmation/Travel documents as no responsibility can be accepted for any incorrect details after travel has commenced.
You will have received our General Booking Terms and Conditions AND Conditions of Carriage when you made your booking. If not, please call us. You will be travelling subject to these important terms. Any queries you may have about these Terms must be raised with us before you arrive at the Port.
Passengers with special needs
Our policy is to help elderly and disabled passengers wherever/ whenever we can. However, if we are to help, we must fully understand your needs well before you travel. If you have not already done so, please discuss these needs with our call centre immediately.
The precise financial terms on which we may be able to help are set out in our General Booking Conditions. Please study these at clause 2. Please arrive at the Port at least one (1) hour before sailing and report to our DFDS Seaways' Office at the Terminal Passports etc.
A full British passport or UK National Identity Card is required for all EU countries. UK National Identity cards are valid for British Citizens to travel to countries within the European Union and the European Economic area plus Switzerland. Passengers travelling to countries outside the EU must check if a visa is required. NB: New passports take about one month to obtain. Passengers with non British passports must check which documents are needed for travel with their own Embassy.
Insurance
We strongly recommend that all passengers take personal and motor (if applicable) travel insurance. Policy prices are detailed on our website www.dfdsseaways.co.uk/insurance

Check-in times
Please note the relevant port check-in times for your departure as printed on your Confirmation / Invoice. Car check in will close 30 minutes before departure so please allow adequate travelling time.
Passengers arriving after these specified times may be unable to board the ship. Passenger vehicles carrying commercial goods should check-in at least 2 hours before departure. There is parking available at Harwich and Newcastle, please refer to the website for prices. These fees may change, parking is paid for on departure from the car park.
On Check in
On arrival at the Port Office, please present this Confirmation / Invoice or advise your booking number. You will be given a boarding card which will be printed with your cabin number. Any relevant pre-paid vouchers will also be issued with your boarding cards. Short Cruise Break passengers should note that even when occupying the same cabin for both the outward and return journeys, a new boarding card may need to be obtained in the overseas port for the return journey.
Embarking
Luggage Allowance: 50kg per adult, 25kg per child. Assistance is generally not available.
Loading Vehicles:
The Loading Officer's instructions must be strictly followed. Vehicles must be left in first gear with hand-brake on. The Car Deck is locked throughout the journey and access is prohibited. Smoking is strictly forbidden on the Car Deck. All passengers must de-activate car alarms for the crossing.
Bottled Gas & Petrol
Any bottled gas cylinders must be handed to the Duty Officer. They are not allowed to remain in your vehicle. Petrol tanks may be full, but fuel in separate containers is not permitted.
Voltage Onboard is 220v, (60Hz) and a two pin Continental adaptor is required. Once Onboard Should you wish to dine in one of the restaurants it is advisable on most ships to make table reservations for dinner as soon as you board the ship. (Commodore Passengers have a steward service who is happy to take your table reservations on embarkation).
Purchases Onboard
The Euro has been adopted by Germany, Holland and Belgium. If travelling to these countries we recommend you purchase Euros as these will also be accepted (alongside £ Sterling) onboard the ships servicing these routes. Most credit cards are accepted on board but, the ships do not accept Delta or Maestro cards without a Visa or Mastercard affiliation.
You will need to present your boarding card when purchasing goods onboard.
Security
DFDS Seaways cannot be held responsible for lost or stolen property. We recommend that items are securely locked in the boot of your car as the car deck is locked throughout the journey. Any small items can be deposited in the Pursers Safe - please ask at the Information Desk on board.
Safety
Safety announcements are made after departure, and it is every passenger's duty to familiarise themselves with the evacuation information placed in their cabin or at a central point outside.
First Aid
Our ships do not carry a doctor, however, all Chief Officers have first aid training.
General Information
Driving Abroad
A full driving licence must be carried at all times. Please see Terms & Conditions for other requirements.
Medical Treatment
Great Britain has reciprocal arrangements with the Scandinavian, and European health service. Ask for Form E111 and the Health Advice for Travellers booklet at any Post Office.
Disorderly Passengers
DFDS Seaways reserve the right to refuse boarding to any passenger who behaves in a disorderly manner. We reserve the right to take reasonable measures against those who do not behave in an acceptable manner and return travel will be refused if deemed necessary.
Passenger Notice
Thank you for booking with DFDS Seaways. Our aim is to make your travel experience with us as pleasurable as possible. Please note that to ensure the relaxation, enjoyment and consideration of all our passengers, we wish to advise you that we are not able to accept the consumption of personal food items or alcohol in the public areas of the ships. Similarly, the use of stereo systems is not permitted onboard (unless with headphones).
Passengers are respectfully asked to bear the above in mind and not bring such items either to check-in or onboard the ship.
