Go Wild with ORCA
Have a whale of a time spotting wildlife in the North Sea including birds, dolphins, porpoises, and even whales, as you sail away on your ORCA wildlife mini cruise break with DFDS Seaways.
Following on from its popularity last year on DFDS Seaways’ Harwich – Esbjerg route, the ORCA wildlife mini cruise launches again in April 2009 on both the Newcastle – Amsterdam and Harwich - Esbjerg routes. Both trips offer great fun for families and eco-interested travellers.
The North Sea is an important ecosystem for wildlife, with whales, dolphins and seabirds regularly sighted between Newcastle and Amsterdam, whilst porpoises, seals and seabirds are frequent our Harwich – Esbjerg route. DFDS Seaways has developed the ORCA wildlife mini cruises in partnership with whale and dolphin charity, ORCA, to ensure everyone enjoys this wonderful experience and learns more about the wildlife around us.
Representatives from ORCA are onboard DFDS Seaways’ cruise ferries conducting a major ecological study of the North Sea and its wildlife and you can be part of the research as you cruise to Amsterdam or Esbjerg.
As part of your eco experience, not only will you have the opportunity to spot and identify birds, whales, dolphins, porpoises and seals, but the ORCA representative will take you through a lively presentation on what you can expect to see, as well as fun kids’ activities, and an exclusive bridge visit.
If you are travelling to Esbjerg, a Fanø Walking Wildlife Tour is also included to further extend your wildlife experience. Once in port a short ferry ride out to the Island of Fanø opens up a whole new world of wildlife. Take in the fresh air and wide horizons of the dunes and heaths on the island as you wander through this area of international importance used by migrating birds in autumn and spring. Or search for amber, which is often found on the beaches.
While customers on the Amsterdam ORCA mini cruise, you will enjoy around 5 hours in this wonderful city.
ORCA is a UK-based charity committed to the study of whales, dolphins and porpoises, and the promotion of their conservation worldwide through enthusing, inspiring and educating others. ORCA and DFDS Seaways have been working in partnership since 2007, studying marine mammals in the North Sea and providing educational facilities to the general public on board.
ORCA wildlife mini cruise breaks are only available at particular times of the year, dependent on the migration patterns of the animals in the North Sea.
