Amsterdam Ferry Port

The port of IJmuiden on the outskirts of Amsterdam is an ideal gateway to Europe, especially from Scotland and the North-East of England.

Getting to the port by car:

When you’re on the A9 coming from Amsterdam, Den Haag, Haarlem or Alkmaar you take the turn to IJmuiden. Then drive next to the channel and go right on the ‘Pontplein’ so you still drive with the channel on your right. Drive through, under the viaduct and at the roundabout go right. Now you’re driving on the ‘Halkade’, follow this road until you arrive at the Felison Terminal.

Parking in IJmuiden is possible in the area, free of cost. Or you can park on our own parking lot for € 6 a night.

Getting to the port by bus:

In co-operation with a local coach firm, DFDS Seaways provides a connecting coach service between the Felison Terminal in IJmuiden and the Central Railway Station in Amsterdam. On days of departure coaches leave the central station between 15.00 and 16.00.

After the arrival of a DFDS Seaways ship, the transfer departs from IJmuiden and heads into the City Centre. The Coach stop in Amsterdam is opposite Central Station, in front of Hotel Victoria, Damrak 1. Tickets can be purchased in advance through DFDS Seaways UK at time of booking.

To reach the port from the centre of IJmuiden, take the bus to the ‘Oranjestraat’ in IJmuiden with bus ‘74’. You can reach the centre of IJmuiden from Amsterdam with bus ‘82’ and from Haarlem with bus ‘75’.

Getting to the port by Taxi

As IJmuiden is a small village there are not many taxis. Furthermore they do not always wait for the arrival of the ship, so it is best to order taxis in advance using one of the numbers below. Please note: taxi journeys are rather expensive in Holland - a taxi from the port into Central Amsterdam costs around €60 each way.

IJmuiden - Amsterdam train connections

Train services are a less convenient method of transport for getting to Amsterdam city centre. The nearest Train station is Haarlem Central, you can reach this station by bus from IJmuiden. First take bus ‘74’ to ‘Plein 1945’ and then at this point take bus ‘75’ to ‘Haarlem Centraal’.
