Newcastle (North Shields) Ferry Port

Getting to the port by car:

From Newcastle City Centre:

Take the A1 towards Morpeth and then the A19 towards the Tyne Tunnel.

On approach to the Tunnel, follow the International Ferry symbol onto the A187 towards North Shields. Continue along this road to the roundabout, take the second exit to the International Ferry Terminal, Royal Quays.

From the North:

Head for the Tyne Tunnel via the A19, then follow the directions as above.

From the South:

Approach via the A19 towards the Tyne Tunnel. Once through the Tunnel, join the A187 and proceed as above. Please Note: Drivers approaching from the South should allow extra time during the summer months when the tunnel can be extremely busy. 


Getting there by Bus:

Newcastle Central Station is about 20 minutes by bus from the port. A special DFDS Seaways bus leaves from Newcastle Bewick Street (opposite Central Station) before each sailing. From only £3.80 per person each way, you can ride the DFDS Seaways Bus from Newcastle Bewick Street (opposite Central Station) to the International Ferry Terminal (and back). The easy way to get to your cruise ferry.

There are two DFDS Seaways bus departures for each sailing; the first one leaves at 14:45 and the second leaves at 15:45, 1 hour 15 minutes before departure. Book in advance or pay the driver when you board.

Getting to Newcastle by train:

With regular train services from major cities across the UK, Newcastle is within easy reach. For train times and fares please visit www.nationalrail.co.uk

Getting to the ferry terminal by Metro

There are 60 Metro stations throughout Tyne & Wear including Newcastle City Centre and Newcastle Central Station. Take the yellow line to Percy Main station. The terminal is a 15-20 minute walk. Do not alight at North Shields as this is not the nearest station. Visit the Metro website for further information and timetables.

Car Parking

The car park at North Shields is operated by Port of Tyne.

On arrival, follow the signs for the secure car park, which is located on the right hand side as you drive down the road. From here the International Passenger Terminal is only a short walk.  If you need to drop people and luggage off first, do this directly outside the terminal before entering the car park.

Amsterdam (IJmuiden) Ferry Port

Amsterdam Ferry Port

DFDS Seaways Amsterdam ferry port is located in the small town of IJmuiden, located on the outskirts of Amsterdam.  The ferry port is ideally located close to Amsterdam's excellent motorways, making it the ideal gateway into Europe, especially from Scotland and the North-East of England. ​

Getting to the port by car:

When you’re on the A9 coming from Amsterdam, Den Haag, Haarlem or Alkmaar you take the turn to IJmuiden. Then drive next to the channel and go right on the ‘Pontplein’ so you still drive with the channel on your right. Drive through, under the viaduct and at the roundabout go right. Now you’re driving on the ‘Halkade’, follow this road until you arrive at the Felison Terminal. Parking in IJmuiden is possible in the area, free of cost. Or you can park on our own parking lot for € 6 a night.

Getting to the port by bus:

In co-operation with a local coach firm, DFDS Seaways provides a connecting coach service between the ferry port in Amsterdam (Felison Terminal in IJmuiden) and the Central Railway Station in Amsterdam. On days of departure coaches leave the central station between 15.00 and 16.00.

On arriving at the Amsterdam ferry port, a coach transfer departs from IJmuiden and heads into the Amsterdam city centre. The coach stop in Amsterdam is opposite Central Station, in front of Hotel Victoria, Damrak 1. Tickets can be purchased in advance through DFDS Seaways UK at time of booking.

Please note these transfers are only included in mini cruises and hotel break products. If you are booking a ferry crossing as a foot passenger to Amsterdam, then coach transfers must be purchased separately.

To reach the ferry port from the centre of IJmuiden, take the bus to the ‘Oranjestraat’ in IJmuiden with bus ‘74’. You can reach the centre of IJmuiden from Amsterdam with bus ‘82’ and from Haarlem with bus ‘75’.

Getting to the port by Taxi

As IJmuiden is a small village there are not many taxis. Furthermore they do not always wait for the arrival of the ship, so it is best to order taxis in advance using one of the numbers below. Please note: taxi journeys are rather expensive in Holland - a taxi from the port into Central Amsterdam costs around €60 each way.

IJmuiden-Amsterdam train connections

Train services are a less convenient method of transport for getting to Amsterdam city centre. The nearest Train station is Haarlem Central, you can reach this station by bus from IJmuiden. First take bus ‘74’ to ‘Plein 1945’ and then at this point take bus ‘75’ to ‘Haarlem Centraal’.

Dover Ferry Port

Dover ferry Port

DFDS Seaways take thousands of passenger and freight vehicles and passengers from Dover across the Channel to both Dunkirk and Calais in the North of France every year.

The ferry terminal at Dover Eastern Docks is one of the busiest ferry docks in the world and is very easy to find and to get to.

Directions:

Situated at the end of the A2 main road from London and close by the main M20 motorway from London, access to the port is clearly signposted on your arrival at Dover

The terminal at Dover is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. On arrival at the terminal just follow the signs through frontier control and then follow the signs for DFDS Seaways check in booths. If you arrive without buying a ticket in advance, you still need to go through passport control first and the staff in the check in booths will be glad to assist. However, you can save money by booking in advance of arrival.

However, it is always cheaper to buy your ticket in advance of arrival at the port and this also guarantees that space will be available for you on the ferry. Please note that we do not accept foot passengers on the Dover-Dunkirk route.

Dunkirk Ferry Port

DFDS Seaways operate a popular passenger and freight ferry service from Dover port to Dunkirk port in the North of France.

As the only ferry company to sail into Dunkirk, you're guaranteed a stress free and easy experience when boarding and disembarking the ferry.

Directions:

  • From A25 Lille: Join the A16, direction Calais.
  • From A16 Dunkerque/Belgium: Take exit 53 (24). Follow signs ‘Port Rapide/Car Ferry’.
  • From St Omer: The D600 crosses the A16 direct to the Terminal.
  • From Dunkerque Centre: Follow signs for Calais - either A16 to exit 53 (24) or on RN1 follow signs to ‘Loon Plage/Car Ferry’.

How do passengers get to the port in Calais?

By car:

The Port of Calais is directly connected to the European motorway network via two auto routes:

  • The A26/E15 serves the centre of France and provides access to Paris and Southern Europe.
  • The A16/E40 feeds into the Benelux and Northern Europe motorway systems and the A16/E402 to Boulogne and Normandy.

Car parking:

There is a free of charge public car park in front of the Terminal building (Calais).

Please advise that this is an unsecured car park and owners leave their vehicles there at their own risk. Cars can be parked near ticket office as there are staff in this area 24 hours a day

Newhaven Ferry Port

Newhaven port information

Overlooking the English Channel (one of the busiest shipping channels in the wold) is Newhaven ferry port. Newhaven is the closest port to London, located on the south coast of England, at the mouth of the river Rouse. Newhaven port has links to France, and is ideally placed between the seaside resorts of Brighton and Eastbourne with quick and easy access to the rest of the UK.

Newhaven ferry port is the easiest and closest link to Dieppe in France.

Directions:

By Car
Only 64 miles from London, 10 miles East of Brighton or 15 miles west of Eastbourne. If travelling from Brighton, travel east along the A27 past Lewes and take the A26 to Newhaven. Once in Newhaven follow the signs to Newhaven Ferry Port.

By Bus
Regular buses (operated by South Coast Buses / Brighton & Hove) arrive and depart daily from Brighton, Peacehaven, Seaford, Bexhill, Folkestone, Dover, Rye and Hastings. National Express also operates a regular coach service to and from Newhaven.

By Train
The train station is only yards from the foot passenger terminal with regular trains from Seaford and Lewes/Brighton, and national services running frequently between London and Newhaven with the majority having at least one change. This makes travelling to Newhaven Ferry Port by train very easy! 

Dieppe Ferry Port

Dieppe port information

Connected to Paris and other major cities in France, Dieppe ferry port is popular for holiday makers. Dieppe is a historic city offering visitors a wide range of entertainment and leisure activities.

Directions:

By Car
Dieppe is only 121 miles North West of Paris and 41 miles from Rouen. Follow the directions from Rouen city centre along the left bank of the River Seine out of the city and onto the N27. Upon crossing the A29 Motorway, follow the directions on the N27 towards Dieppe. The ferry terminal is well sign-posted from the edge of the town.

By Bus
Regular bus services are operated from Dieppe to other major French towns and cities.
A shuttle bus operates between Dieppe ferry terminal, town centre and train station for a €2 fare (timetable includes Sundays & public holidays, shuttle bus only available during high season).
Monday to Sunday:
- Departure from the ferry terminal at 15.00
- Departure from the train station either at 16.00 or 17.00 depending on the day

By Rail
The SNCF train station is located in the centre of the town. Upon exiting the station, follow the road straight ahead with the quay on your right. Turn right at the Tourist Information Centre over 2 bridges and follow the harbour wall to your left. The Transmanche Ferry terminal is 500 yards away.

Getting to the port by car

From the South:

Drive down Kalvebod Brygge and Niels Juels Gade. Continue straight ahead to Kongens Nytorv and drive straight out of Bredgade followed by Grønningen. Turn right at Folke Bernadottes Allé (just before Østerbro train station) and drive straight out of Kalkbrænderihavnsgade until you turn right at Dampfærgevej.

From the North:

Travelling by car from the north it is easy to find our new terminal. Drive straight out of Lyngbyvejen and turn left at Jagtvej. Then drive straight ahead on Strandboulevarden about 700m, and turn left at Århusgade for about 300m. Turn right at Kalkbrænderihavnsgade and drive straight ahead until you have to turn left at Dampfærgevej.

The Terminal is Located at Søndre Frihavn – use ring road O2 – (Kalkbrænderihavnsgade).

Passenger Cars and Freight Vehicles:

Departure: follow signs at entrance for check-in area and lane information.

Arrival: follow signs for customs green/red. Direction signs for Centrum, Ring Road O2 and Motorways Rødby/Odense.

Parking space:

We have our parking spaces nearby the car check-in. At first the guest shall have a ticket to the parking space, which they get from the terminal at the check-in counter. We refer them to a number where they shall park their car. They take their car and drive to the small traffic lights. From there they have to turn right and from there they can see parking spaces with numbers. Then they park the car at the number we have given them.

Getting to and from the port by bus

The Ferry terminal is located in the heart of Oslo.

From the South:

Getting to and from the port by bus

To and from The Central Station/Oslo S and Vippetangen: Take bus No.60 - Vippetangen, from Oslo S to Vippetangen. The bus stops outside “Jernbanetorvets Apotek” – the Central Station's pharmacy, opposite to the entrance of the shopping mall “Byporten”. The bus departs approximately every 20 minutes and takes about 5 minutes to Vippetangen, (or “Fiskehallen”) which is the last stop.

Bus No.60 returns to Oslo from Vippetangen approximately every 20 minutes. It leaves around 15 minutes after your ferry has docked, giving you plenty of time.

By Train

As the capital of Norway, Oslo has excellent train connections with key cities in Norway and indeed across Scandinavia.  Oslo Port is close by to the city centre.

From the city centre on foot

If you choose to walk to the terminal, turn left when facing Karl Johan street and walk towards “Havnelageret” which is a large pink building. Cross over the E18 after approximately 150 metres, by using one of the crossing walkway bridges. From the bridge you will to see our cruise ferry, and the signs marked with “Gangvei til fergene” / “Walkway towards the ships”.

If you are situated in the area of Akerbrygge, follow the seaside road that leads around the large fortress. Both walks take around 15 – 20 minutes.

DFDS Seaways operates 2 ferries to Lithuania (Klaipeda). One sailing from Sweden (Karlshamn) and one from Germany (Kiel).

Travel by car

  • From the north part of the city – along H. Manto – Taikos streets to the very end of the city, following the signs or using the city plan
  • From the east part of the city (highway Klaipėda – Vilnius) – along Vilniaus, Baltijos streets until the roundabout at Taikos street, turning left and going to the very end of the city following the signs or using the city plan
  • From the south part of the city (from Šilutė, Priekulė) - along Jūrininkų str. until the crossing at Jūrininkų-Taikos str., turning left and taking the main way to the terminal

Bus/Taxi

Alternatively, take the No.1A scheduled bus or take a taxi by referring to the terminal name; the 'International Ferry Port.'

Parking

A parking-lot is located in front of the entrance to the terminal building. In the first lane, in front of the terminal building, parking is prohibited. Parking is allowed only while disembarking and embarking the passengers.

On the 1st floor of the terminal building you can find currency exchange and cafe (open: 9.00 a.m. – 6.00 p.m.)

Check in

Passenger check-in is located on the first floor, in the Passenger waiting hall. Sailings from Klaipeda depart at 20:00, with check in at the International Ferry Terminal opening at 17:00. All passengers must be checked in by 19:00.

Karlshamn Ferry Port

A ferry crossing to Karlshamn opens up the whole of Sweden among other great countries.

Travel by car

  • Drive towards Karlshamn West (Västra), Karlshamn’s ports (hamnar).
  • Turn off right on the first roundabout, continue 1.2 km.
  • Turn off left (to Södra Stillerydsvägen), continue 1.2 km.
  • The ferry terminal building is in front of you. Passenger check-in is on the second floor.

Taxi

Take a taxi from Karlshamns station to the ferry port costing approx. 100 SEK. Simply call a taxi using the free phone in the station building. 

Check in

Sailings from Karlshamn depart at 18:00 and check in at Karlshamn Hamn opens at 15:00. All passengers must be checked in by 17:00.

​The German port city of Kiel gives access to and from Klaipeda in Lithuania. With access by car or train, getting to the port of Kiel couldn't be easier

Coming from the direction of Hamburg

Drive towards Flensburg via highway A7. At the highway triangle Bordesholm, from A7 head towards A215 Blumenthal/Kiel. Follow the road signs for Ostuferhafen/Klaipėda to exit highway A215. From this point on, follow the road signs.

Coming from the direction of Flensburg

Drive towards Hamburg via highway A7. At the highway crossroad Rendsburg, from A7 head towards A210 Kiel/Bredenbek. At the highway crossroad Kiel-West, turn from A210 towards A215. Follow the road signs of Ostuferhafen/Klaipėda to exit highway A215. From this point on, follow the road signs.

German railway

Head for the central railway station in Kiel, take the number 11 going toward Dietrichsdorf and get off at the Grenzstrasse bus stop. You can then take a taxi from the central station to Ostuferhafen which will cost approximately 12.00 Euro.

Check in

Check in opens 3 hours before scheduled departure and all passengers must be check in in 1 hour before departure.
