Update and advice on french strikes and fuel supplies

Strikes taking place at oil refineries are affecting the availability of fuel in France, but are not currently affecting our services. We advise you to fill up your vehicle fuel tank before leaving the UK and to plan ahead for your journey through France.

Maritime and Coastguard Agency guidance allows carriage of small amounts of diesel subject to the approval of individual ferry operators. We do not allow customers travelling with us to carry spare fuel cans. Petrol and diesel fuel is classed as a dangerous good because it is highly flammable.

Our policy is in line with most ferry operators and advice from the leading UK motoring associations, the RAC and the AA, which advise against carrying spare fuel cans in your vehicle because of the associated safety risks.

Please fill your vehicle before you arrive at Dover or Newhaven if you can. Belgium is unaffected by the strike action and is within easy reach of our routes to Dunkirk (10 miles) and Calais (34 miles).

Real time fuel availability in France can be monitored via this French Language website here

Additionally, we would recommend freight traffic follows the A20 as normal but tourist customers may wish to travel via the M2/A2. If customers use the M20/A20, then they should use the right hand lane on the approach to Dover.
