Things to do on a short break to Esbjerg in Denmark
The city of Esbjerg should never be overlooked as a Danish holiday destination. As one of Denmark's largest ports, it provides easy access into mainland Scandinavia, yet has still managed to maintain its local culture and traditions.
Often on Saturday afternoons shops in Esbjerg close early, keeping to the traditional ways of the past. However restaurants and other attractions stay open, allowing you to take in the other more tourist oriented side of Esbjerg.
Some of the attractions that remain open on Saturdays include the family favourite Fisheries and Maritime Museum (
www.fimus.dk), which is free for anyone under the age of 18. Enjoy strolling through the salt water aquarium discovering new and amazing facts about the many species of fish inside, including sharks, rays and crabs.
Alternatively you could take a leisurely stroll up to the Lightship Museum where kids get in for free if accompanied by an adult, or take a lazy walk up to Esbjerg's Water Tower and take in an unbeatable panoramic view of the city.
If that's not for you then head to the city's famous Art Museum. With one of the finest art collections in Denmark, with works dating back as far as 1902 to the present day, you could spend hours roaming around the gallery's range of contemporary and experimental art pieces, designed by some of leading artists in Denmark.
What are you waiting for; visit Esbjerg today for a short break to remember!
