Alternatively, you could use Calais as a dropping point for travelling to any of the many family-friendly resorts in Northern France:

 La Touquet - A popular playground for wealthy Parisians in the 1920s and 30s, these days the Opal Coast resort of La Touquet is a perfect holiday spot for active families, featuring several water parks, aquaboarding, cycling, horse-riding and sand yachting. 

•  Forges Les Eaux – A beautiful natural resort featuring acres of lush countryside. Take a donkey rides along a selection of themed trails, get lost in an extensive plant maze (complete with trolls!) or enjoy an idyllic day walking or cycling down a section of the famous Avenue Verte.

 Le Havre – A World Heritage Site since 2005, Le Havre offers miles of unspoiled sand-and-pebble beaches and a bustling port featuring regular boat trips. Don’t forget to pay a visit to the 200 hectare Parc de la Fort de la Foret de Montgeon, featuring a mini-zoo, fountains, discovery trail, children’s playgrounds and much, much more!

Alternative routes

DFDS Seaways also offers regular ferries from Dover to the historic port of Dunkirk , just 10km from the Belgian border. You can also travel into France via our Newhaven-Dieppe and Portsmouth-Le Havre routes.
