What to see and do in Ypres

Floriade

In between tours once you leave our ferry, you will have some free time in which to explore on your own, or simply kick back and relax - the choice is yours!

The In Flanders Fields Museum is located in the famous Cloth Hall in the centre of Ypres, which was virtually destroyed in the Battle of Ypres. Named after the famous poem by John McCrae, the museum tells the story of what was seen in Flanders in World War I.

Ramparts War Museum is a small museum which shows life-like decor with archaeological finds and original material from World War I. There’s also an authentic pub attached where you can try 40 real ales served in stone tankards as they would have been during the war.

The Arthur Merghelynck Hotel museum is also a must see when on holiday in Ypres, as it gives you an interesting insight into how the region and local community has grown through wonderful paintings, furniture and other artefacts.

Lastly, the stunning St Martin’s Cathedral is one of the tallest buildings in Belgium and stands at an impressive 102 metres. It was heavily damaged by the war, and was rebuilt afterwards with a higher spire than the original.
