Your Battlefields break
Departing from North Shields at 5pm, you can start your break with a relaxing crossing to Holland. Enjoy drinks and live entertainment in one of the bars, visit the shops, cinema and casino and take a stroll on deck. Come dinner time you’ll be spoiled for choice as there are a number of restaurants to choose from including our popular 7 Seas buffet restaurant, the Blue Riband à la carte restaurant and the Explorers Steakhouse. When it’s time for bed retire to your cosy cabin for a good night’s sleep. A variety of cabin types are available. Upgrade from £5pp.
The ship will dock into IJmuiden at 9.30am and your coach will be waiting to transfer you to your hotel in Ypres.
The first tour of your break departs early afternoon. The first stop is a guided tour of the Ypres Salient. Visit sites including Essex Farm Cemetery, the John McCrae site where the poem 'In Flanders Fields' was written. You’ll also visit the world’s largest Commonwealth cemetery, Tyne Cot and site of the Battle of Passchendaele.
After dinner at the hotel you will attend the moving Last Post ceremony at the Menin Gate.
After breakfast you will join the guided tour of Vimy Ridge, the tunnels and memorial plus the nearby German Cemetery. You’ll then head for a inclusive lunch at Ocean Villas Tea House where the walls are lined with WWI artefacts, all found locally.
After lunch you will tour the Somme Battlefields including the Thiepval Memorial to the Missing of the Somme, the Lochnagar Crater and Newfoundland Park Memorial. Spend the evening at your leisure in Ypres.
