Esbjerg – Enjoy the great outdoors
Esbjerg lies at the heart of Denmark’s holiday coast, a region famous for its wild, dramatic beauty, white sandy beaches, rugged nature reserves and quaint medieval towns. Ideal for families, couples and groups of friends, it’s a great place to sightsee, enjoy outdoor pursuits or just relax and recharge.
Coastal city, cultural gem
The town is known throughout Denmark for its art and culture, a reputation symbolized most powerfully by the monumental Man Meets the Sea sculpture which will greet you as you sail into Esbjerg. These four 9-metre high statues are visible from six miles out to sea on a clear day.
The gothic Water Tower is another famous landmark, while the Museum of Art showcases the work of some of Denmark’s most famous artists, as well as the lives of its most infamous inhabitants – the Vikings.
You are never far from the beach in Esbjerg. Unspoiled and uncrowded, they are backed by windswept dunes and heathlands - perfect for walking - or why not take the ferry to Fanø looking out for birds and other wildlife on the way.
A taste of Denmark
Esbjerg has some fantastic Danish restaurants, along with plenty of cosy cafés where you can relax with a coffee and enjoy some warm Scandinavian hospitality. It’s also the main shopping centre for this part of Denmark. Boasting the country’s longest shopping street, Esbjerg is a shopaholic’s dream! Esbjerg travel guide
