This guided tour of Ypres will undoubtedly open your eyes to the horror and tragedy of the First World War.
Situated in the middle of the frontline between Allied and German troops Ypres is a popular battlefields tour for many enthusiasts.
Departing from Newcastle early evening you will begin your WW1 tour onboard our ferry sailing overnight to Amsterdam.
Arriving early the following morning you will be transferred by coach to Ypres, where you will be provided with a packed lunch for the journey.
After lunch you will be given a guided tour by coach of Salient. We visit the major sites including British, Canadian and Anzac memorials, Essex Farm Cemetery, the John McCrae site, The only German cemetery, the site of the first gas attack, the world’s largest Commonwealth cemetery Tyne Cot and the Battle of Passchendaele before arriving at your hotel, ideally located in the centre of Ypres.
After breakfast the following morning your battlefields tour continues with a visit to Vimy and then Vimy Ridge, followed by the 2nd largest French Cemetery in France (Notre Dame de Lorette) and the largest German Cemetery in France (La Targette) and then return for the Wellington Caves beneath Aras which were used by soldiers (extra charge).
Relax the rest of the evening and explore Ypres at your own leisure. Maybe wander around this quaint town taking in the brilliant architecture of the Menin Gate before a peaceful nights sleep in at your hotel.
After breakfast the following morning, relax and roam the town at your own leisure. You could either visit the Flanders Fields Museum and/or Saint George’s Memorial Church before boarding the coach once again and heading back to Amsterdam for your return ferry crossing to the UK.
