This 3 night break gives you the chance to explore two of Denmark’s towns on 8th December 2013.

Spend your first day exploring the maritime port of Esbjerg where you can visit one of the galleries, take a short ferry trip accross to the picture perfect wildlife island of Fanø, or if you have an intrerest in sea life the a trip to one of the Fisheries or Maritime museum is a must.

The second day is spent exploring the medieval city of Ribe, often compared to York and is Denmark’s oldest town. Here you can visit the Viking centre and Viking museum or just have a gentle stroll round the cobbled streets with its half-timbered houses and variety of shops and restaurants.

When Christmas time rolls around, Ribe goes into high gear by using the old, beautiful houses to set the stage for all kinds of Christmas activities - and like the good old days, it looks, smells, feels, sounds, and tastes of Christmas.

Christmas in Ribe builds upon the beloved Danish children’s book, “Peters jul”, in verse about a middleclass family Christmas in the 1860’s. The author had family in Ribe, and probably celebrated Christmas in the Cathedral town here with his brother, who made the illustrations for the first adition of the book.

Esbjerg art museum

Only 40 minutes from the port in Esbjerg, Ribe is a delightful and relaxing short break to Denmark. Often overlooked by many Ribe is one city that always over delivers in meeting your expectations.

For couples

YoThe medieval town of Ribe has many exciting museums, shops, restaurants and well-preserved buildings to discover. It has the oldest existing town hall in Denmark, where you can see some macabre exhibits including the executioner’s sword in its debtors’ prison. During the summer months as the clock strikes 10, you can follow the night watchman as he walks through the ancient streets, singing the watchman song and telling tales of the town’s history.

For families

Enjoy a family break to Ribe and discover the nature and wildlife of the nearby Waddensea and marshlands at the Waddensea centre or take a trip to the beautiful Mandø Island, with its unique birdlife, on the tractor-drawn bus. For some beautiful white sandy beaches, head to Rømø island or Fanø - which you can explore on foot, bike or horseback.

For friends

Head to the Ribe Viking Centre for displays and re-enactments of what it was like to live in AD 800 under Viking rule – alternatively a visit to the Det Lille Ølhus or Beer House could be a pleasant way to pass the day as you sample some of the finest local ales.

Day 1
16:00 Check-in opens.
17:00 Check-in closes.
17:45 Depart Harwich for Esbjerg.

Day 2
13:00 Arrive in Esbjerg & meet local guide for a walking tour of Esbjerg.

Head back to the ship for boarding at 17.30 and 18.30 for overnight on-board.
Day 3
Transfer bus to Ribe 09.00am. Guided walking tour of Ribe included. Enjoy your stay in Ribe, explore the area. 
17.00 coach back to port.

Day 4
12:00 Arrive in to Harwich at 12.00.  

Please note: Sunday departures from Harwich are scheduled to leave at 17:15. Please check in between 15:30-16:30. 
There will be a limited service on the night of this mini cruise. The service within the Commodore lounge is also reduced during the night in port. Commodore customers also do not get breakfast included on the morning after the night in port.
