One of Holland’s most delightful small cities, Haarlem boasts cobbled streets and gorgeous 17th century architecture which rivals Amsterdam’s, particularly in the main square, Grote Markt. Haarlem is also an excellent shopping destination, and has a number of bars, cafes and restaurants where you can relax.
The Frans Hals Museum is a great day out for families or for art-loving couples, with a collection of paintings by the Dutch Golden Age artist, as well as other pieces from artists of the same era. The Teyler Museum is another excellent museum highlighting Holland’s artistic heritage, with works from Rembrandt and Michaelangelo, but also contains a collection of fossils which will fascinate kids and grown-ups alike.
