Holidays in Belgium - Travel Guide

For such a small country a Belgium offers a diverse range of activities and things to do. From yachting in the North Sea to trekking of the rolling Ardennes hills in the south, a holiday in Belgium is suitable for all.

When most people think of a short break in Belgium, most think of the cities in the north, also called the Flanders region; however the south (Wallonia region) also has plenty of fascinating cities to visit too.

Many of the people who holiday in Belgium’s Flanders region often pay tribute to the soldiers who lost their lives during the wars at the cemeteries of the many battlefields sites scattered across the region. One of the best known cities for this is Ypres (or Ieper).

Bruges is by and far the most popular holiday destination in Belgium. Due to Belgium's ferry, car and air links, you can easily reach Bruges for a short break from the UK and mainland Europe.

Other popular cities found in northern Belgium are Ghent and Antwerp.

If you are lucky enough to enjoy a holiday in Belgium, then you should definitely take the opportunity to sample some of the many culinary traditions Belgium has to offer. Probably most famous for its chocolate and array of beers, you can often sample some of these delights before you buy.

If you are looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of the major cities then a trip to the south of Belgium is where you need to be. Home to the Brothers Grimm, fantastic scenery and rolling forests immerse yourself in Belgium’s medieval past.

Popular cities in south Belgium include Brussels,Liege and Namur.
