Amsterdam In Wintertime
Amsterdam is a wonderful city to visit in late winter. Outside of the main holiday seasons, the city is quieter and less crowded to explore. One of its most famous attractions in winter is ICE*Amsterdam, when you can ice skate on the city’s famous Museumplein.
Visit in January and you’ll also witness the Amsterdam Light Festival, when light installations adorn canals, streets and landmarks. Amsterdam in winter means cosy bars, heartwarming food, picture postcard scenery and twinkling fairy lights – if it’s cold enough you might even get to ice skate on a canal!

Amsterdam for couples
Amsterdam is famous worldwide for its romantic Renaissance architecture, historic canal houses and beautiful gabled facades. But the city also has a unique charm and intimacy that makes it particularly appealing for couples. With its atmospheric tree lined canals, this is a city that’s made for walking, cycling, enjoying a canal cruise, or just sitting outside a café and watching the world go by.
Amsterdam for Families
Amsterdam is a perfect city for a family break. It’s compact, so it’s easily explored by foot or by bicycle, and the whole family will love taking a canal cruise. There are museums aplenty whether your interest is fine art, science or history, or perhaps you’d prefer something a little more quirky such as Micropia, the world’s first zoo for microbes! Amsterdam also has Holland’s oldest zoo, Natura Artis, which everyone in the family will enjoy.
Amsterdam for friends
Amsterdam is the ultimate city for a short break with friends. The bars, cafes and nightlife are legendary, but the city offers more cerebral pursuits too such as world-class art galleries, museums and Michelin-starred restaurants. Amsterdam is a great city for shopaholics, as it offers a dazzling choice of outlets including independent, designer and vintage boutiques. Perfect for friends, great for clubs and ideal for youth groups – this city has it all.
