A whale of a time on the north sea!

Michaela Strachan joins dfds to launch 2017 wildlife watching season.

BBC wildlife expert Michaela Strachan will be the special guest speaker at the launch of the whale and dolphin watching season on board with DFDS this March.

The TV personality is a favourite with adults and children alike following her appearances on the BBC’s Really Wild Show, SpringWatch, and Countryfile. A passionate conservationist, Michaela will share tales of some of her experiences with whales, dolphins and other ocean mammals during her guest appearance on board DFDS’ ship, King Seaways, on 25 March. The special event marks the launch of the 2017 marine wildlife mini cruise season, during which passengers travelling with DFDS can join wildlife officers from marine conservation charity ORCA to spot the wide variety of marine life that inhabits the North Sea. ORCA and DFDS are celebrating the tenth year of their partnership in 2017. Since 2007, ORCA has conducted 52 marine life surveys on DFDS’ North Sea service from Newcastle to Amsterdam, recording the highest diversity of species on the North Sea during that time. During the launch event, the ORCA team will give an overview of their work and discuss the species spotted during their crossings with DFDS on the Newcastle-Amsterdam route, which include sightings of 105 Bottlenose dolphins, 87 White-Beaked dolphins and an abundance of Minke whales, as well as one-off sightings of the Striped dolphin and Fin whale.

Tickets for the event are on sale now, priced at £16 for adults and £12 for children over the age of three and under 12-years-old.
