Blooming Good Breaks With DFDS
Blooming good breaks to the bright, bountiful bulbfields of Holland are available with ferry company DFDS this spring.
The company partners with Keukenhof flower gardens to offer a Dutch Bulbfields mini cruise package on its Newcastle to Amsterdam route. The experience gives customers a chance to visit Keukenhof’s landscaped gardens, which display more than seven million bulbs of 800 varieties on a 32 hectare site from March to May each year.
Prices for the mini cruise package start from £111 per person, based on two people sharing an en suite cabin. The mini cruise product includes two nights of accommodation on board the Newcastle to Amsterdam cruise ferries, plus coach transfers and entrance to Keukenhof with up to three-and-a-half hours to explore the gardens. Bookings can be made until 14 May 2017 at for travel between 23 March and 15 May, when the gardens are open.
The one million annual visitors that Keukenhof attracts are treated to different themed displays and ‘Dutch design’ will inspire the bulb mosaic that forms the garden’s centrepiece, its flower shows and its two inspirational gardens this year. The mosaic will emulate Mondrian’s art and will feature more than 80,000 tulips, muscari and crocoses in blue, gold, white and red.
Other highlights of the activities taking place during the eight week flowering period, include:
Daily flower arranging demonstrations in the Oranje Nassau Pavilion
7 to 9 April: Keukenhof Flowermarket – a must for keen gardeners, offering a chance to get your green fingers on a host of unusual bulbs and get expert advice on planting techniques
22 April: Flower Parade – dozens of illuminated, colourful floats decorated with a variety of flowers parade through the gardens en route to nearby Haarlem. Book early for access to this hugely popular event
