Help Local Charity Project Make a Splash by Voting for Your Seas Project
DFDS and ORCA’s Your Seas project shortlisted for National Lottery Award.
North Shields ferry operator, DFDS, in conjunction with whale and dolphin charity, ORCA, are appealing for local people to help them win the prestigious Environment category in this year’s National Lottery Awards, as the only north-east based initiative nominated.
The ORCA Your Seas Education Programme, which has made the shortlist for the National Lottery Award, is designed to inspire and educate people of all ages about whales, dolphins and porpoises and encourage them to protect the local marine environment. To date, the Your Seas project, based in the north east, has worked with over 32,000 people aged from 5 to 79 years old helping them to not only understand more about the marine animals in the North Sea, but also helping people to spot them from the decks of DFDS cruise ferry, King Seaways, which sails between Newcastle and Amsterdam.
Winners will receive a £2,000 cash prize, an iconic National Lottery Awards trophy and attend a star-studded awards ceremony, broadcast on BBC One in September, helping with both funding and reputation.
Max Foster, passenger director at DFDS comments, “Here at DFDS we are very proud of our relationship with this fantastic charity and all of the great work they do for our seas. We can think of no more deserving recipient of this award”.
You can vote for ORCA at www.dfds.co.uk/lotteryawards. Voting closes on 29 July.
