​Newcastle (north shields) Ferry Port​


Newcastle Check-In Information​

Check-in opens at 14:30 daily and closes at 16:15.  When travelling to the port, please allow adequate time in order to complete the check-in process. A minimum of 45 minutes prior to the sailing departure time for our ferry crossings on our North Sea routes .​​

About the Port of Newcastle​​:

Located in North Shields, just outside of the city, the Newcastle ferry port is easy to access by car and by public transport, including a bus service from the city's Central Station.

Travelling to the port​​​

​By Car​:

  • The ferry terminal is well signed from all directions – follow the ferry road signs
  • ​​From Newcastle city centre, take the A1058 towards Tynemouth, and then the A19 towards Tyne Tunnel. Then join the A187 towards Royal Quays.
  • From the north, take the A19 towards Tyne Tunnel (toll payable), then join the A187 towards Royal Quays.
  • From the south, take the A19 towards Tyne Tunnel (toll payable). Drive through the tunnel and at the first exit join the A187 towards Royal Quays.​

​By ​Bus:

  • From Bewick Street, opposite Central Station, take the DFDS bus to the terminal
  • Departures at 14:45 and 15:45, journey takes approximately 20 minutes
  • One way ticket costs £3.80  

By Trai​n & Metro:

  • There are regular train services to Newcastle Central Station
  • From Central Station, take the Metro (yellow line) to Percy Main station. Visit the Tyne and Wear Metro website for further information and timetables. 
  • The port is a 15-20 minute walk from Percy Main station

​​Car Parking

The car park at North Shields is operated by Port of Tyne.

On arrival, follow the signs for the secure car park, which is located on the right hand side as you drive down the road. From here the International Passenger Terminal is only a short walk.  If you need to drop people and luggage off first, do this directly outside the terminal before entering the car park.
