5 Hours in Amsterdam for Couples

Our Amsterdam mini cruise is our most popular break, with thousands of customers each year making the overnight journey to the Dutch capital to spend a day seeing the sights for themselves. With so much to see in Amsterdam, it can be hard to decide what to pack into your day, so this guide is full of attractions, sights, museums and more to help you!

Obviously you won’t have time to do all of these, so we decided to provide each one with an estimated time too, so you can pick and mix your favourites.

De Magere Brug

One of Amsterdam’s most famous romantic destinations, legend has it that couples who kiss on this bridge will stay together forever. De Magere Brug – literally “The Skinny Bridge” – is probably the most famous bridge in Amsterdam, no mean feat for a city with 1500 bridges! It’s the perfect destination for a quick holiday selfie, and to look out across Amsterdam’s effortlessly romantic skyline.

Door 74

Amsterdam’s first speakeasy-style cocktail bar, you won’t find Door 74 on many maps or travel guides. In fact, it’s difficult to find it at all. Elusive and exclusive, you have to call Door 74’s reservation number (available on their website) and book your slot with the bar’s fine cocktail waiters. Cool and sophisticated, with antique barware and a dimly-lit atmosphere, it’s the perfect place to escape for an afternoon cocktail.

Look sweet upon the seat of a bicycle built for two!

Book a tandem bike and cycle through any of Amsterdam’s parks, green spaces or even the cobbled, canal-lined streets. There are few things in life which compare to the simple, romantic pleasure of a bike ride when the sun is shining. Why not pack a picnic and relax in the shade of the trees in Vondelpark? You can hire a tandem from MacBike in Overtoom, just a short walk away!

For the old-school hopeless romantics among you who still want to say it with flowers, you simply won’t find a better selection anywhere in Amsterdam than in Bloemenmarkt. A floating flower market which stocks a huge range of plants and bulbs, it’s been a fixture in Amsterdam since 1862!

Amstelveld

Amstelveld

One of Amsterdam’s prettiest outdoor dining destinations, Amstelveld is a great place to grab a coffee, a bite to eat or to share a dessert. Get comfortable in the shade of the wing-nut trees, beside the 17th century wooden church and the placid, calm canal as you people-watch and enjoy a slice of apple pie with cream.
