What’s on in Amsterdam this Winter
Holland’s capital of Amsterdam is busy with activity this time of year, with plenty to do from November all the way until February and March.
15 – 26 November 2017
Every November RAI Exhibition and Convention Centre hosts PAN Amsterdam. There’s ancient Grecian and Roman sculptures, as well as contemporary art installations, modern photography and the Dutch masters.
Amsterdam Light Festival
30 November 2017 – 21 January 2018
This year Amsterdam Light Festival celebrates its fifth birthday. International artists will contribute their luminous artwork, with displays and exhibitions on both the pathways and waterways.
18 November 2017 – 4 February 2018
Set up in the beautiful Museumplein, Ice* Amsterdam offers a huge ice rink, with a stunning backdrop of Rijksmuseum, as well as a restaurant. Plus, for 10 days in December there’s the festive Ice* Village Christmas market.
Masters of LXRY
8 – 12 December 2017
Extravagant items from all genres, including art, food, yachts and cars, jewellery and watches interior design will be displayed at this incredibly aesthetic, luxury event.
There will also be exclusive product launches and limited edition items on offer as well as fashion shows, live music and more.
Dam Square Christmas Tree
Throughout December 2017
Dam Square get their famous Christmas tree from the German Ardennes each year. It always reaches heights of 20m or more and is dressed with over 40,000 fairy lights.
19 – 20 January 2018
Each year, Posthoornkerk in Amsterdam becomes a whisky tasting room.
Purchase a ticket for the event, and included is a welcome drink, souvenir glass and bottle of water.
Head down to the basement for cigars, traditional Scottish products and music.
National Tulip Day
20 January 2018
Marking the beginning of tulip season, National Tulip Day is an annual event that takes places in January each year.
Dam Square is filled with around 200,000 tulips which people can pick and take away for free.

Spend Valentine’s Day in Amsterdam for a little Dutch romance. Evening canal cruises, tandem cycling and Magere Brug (the city’s kissing bridge) all add up to the perfect Valentine’s Day. There’s even a romance-themed movie night at Royal Concertgebouw.
Chinese New Year
16 – 17 February 2018
Chinese New Year in 2018 is on 16 February. Dam Square and the historic Nieuwmarkt/Zeedijk neighbourhood tend to host the festivities on the closest Saturday, which in 2018 will be Saturday 17 February.

An indoor house and techno festival that spans throughout the entire day and into the night. The event is centred around a theme of wonder and the surreal.
9 – 21 March 2018
A celebration of LGBTQ cinema, this film festival has taken place every year since 1996 and presents the best in films, shorts and documentaries that deal with LGBTQ issues.
