What is North Sea Sounds?
North Sea Sounds is revolutionary and award-winning cruise-and-concert concept, which sees world-famous artists from a number of genres perform onboard our ferry. Check out the options for this year below, we’re confident that there’s something that’ll take your fancy!
Craig Charles Funk & Soul Club and Smoove & Turrell (SOLD OUT)
Craig Charles brought his Funk & Soul Club to our ship last year for a sell-out show and we loved it so much that we couldn’t wait to get him back, accompanied by local heroes Smoove & Turrell!
You might know Craig Charles for his appearances on TV or his show on BBC Radio 6 Music; since 2008 he has taken his Funk & Soul club to nightclubs around the country to showcase the music that he loves best. Locally based artists Smoove & Turrell play what they call Northern Funk, an entirely modern style which takes influence from funk, soul, hip-hop and pop music. We’ll also have DJ sets from Smoove, Ema Nosurak and Tizer and Toma playing funk, northern and modern soul.
The Lindisfarne Story and Martin Stephenson - (SOLD OUT)
You might know the legendary 70s group Lindisfarne from hits such as Lady Eleanor, Meet Me on the Corner or Run for Home, not to mention the classic Fog on the Tyne. On this cruise, members of the group Ray Laidlaw and Billy Mitchell tell the story of the group through performances, stories, photos and videos. The pair have toured all over the country recently, regularly captivating large audiences.
Martin Stephenson of The Daintees offers support, with a wonderful blend of acoustic folk and pop.
Frankie & the Heartstrings and Hyde & Beast– departs Fri 18 Nov
Frankie & the Heartstrings have been north-east mainstays since they first formed in 2008, playing sell-out shows and even opening their own record shop in Sunderland. Their 50s-influenced indie pop has taken them to play all over the world and their debut album made the top 40.
Supporting them will be Hyde & Beast, made up of Dave Hyde of Futureheads fame, plus Neil Basset of the Golden Virgins, who play an anarchic type of psychedelic punk. Both bands are a must-see for fans of local indie rock.
Field Music, cult heroes in the North East, will also be DJing on the night, as well as snooker-player-turned-DJ Steve Davis. Both will be spinning a range of indie-pop tunes sure to delight fans of both bands. The nights will also see performances by the Cornshed Sisters, Barry Hyde, Tom Fletcher, Jess Wilson and DJ sets from members of Frankie & the Heartstrings and more.
Bowie Ball – departs Fri 2 Dec
Following David Bowie’s tragic passing earlier this year, what better way to celebrate the life of a man who lived larger than most than the Bowie Ball?
Everybody has a favourite Bowie persona, which is part of what made him such a fascinating artist, and the Bowie Ball is an opportunity to dress up as Major Tom, Aladdin Sane, the Thin White Duke or whoever your favourite is.
We will be joined onboard by the Ronsonettes, one of the best Bowiesque bands around, as well as DJs playing the best of Bowie, as well as Bowie’s favourite artists. There’ll also be a Bowie transformation station and a selfie booth as well as films about his life, the chance to replicate David with Bowie-oke and more.
The Bowie Ball is a totally immersive Bowie experience, and the ideal way to hail the life of one of the 20th century’s most important artists.
Not only will you be entertained by amazing live performances from our bands and DJs, but there’s plenty more to keep you busy too.
Our excellent, modern, onboard facilities include bars and lounges, a cinema, a games room and more.
We also have shops with high-street-beating prices on fashion, fragrance, confectionery and more. You can even have a flutter in the casino if you’re feeling lucky.
We have 4 excellent onboard restaurants which are sure to suit everybody’s tastes. Check out the newly updated menu at our à la carte dining restaurant, the Blue Riband, or get stuck into tasty, juicy cuts of beef cooked to perfection at the Explorers Steakhouse. Enjoy great food from all over the world at the 7 Seas all-you-can-eat buffet restaurant, or be a little more specific and sample classic Italian dishes at Little Italy. We also have an extensive hot and cold breakfast range, and a café serving snacks, pastries and hot drinks.
Book with our meal package and you’ll enjoy an all-you-can-eat buffet dinner at the 7 Seas on your outbound crossing, as well as a breakfast buffet before the ship docks in IJmuiden.
En suite cabins
Once you’ve enjoyed a great night out at the gig, head back to your private, en suite cabins, which will include everything you and your group need for an enjoyable stay.
Our Economy 4-berth cabins will provide you with a comfortable night’s sleep.
As well as being one of Europe’s most beautiful cities, Amsterdam is also one of its most fun. Marvel at the city as the classic and the modern lie side-by-side, with magnificent museums such as the Rijksmuseum next to brilliant bars and boutiques, or sites of historical interest. Grab a beer or a coffee and soak in the vibrant atmosphere of the Dutch capital.
