To celebrate National Ferry Fortnight we are looking at the weird and wonderful passions we have welcomed onboard over the years. Across our 4 routes and up to 58 daily sailings from the UK to Europe, we have taken everything from rally cars to WWII tanks, artist displays to the Trafalgar Square Christmas Tree. We put our passengers at the heart of all our journeys, making sure that no matter what the passion, we help keep it alive across Europe.

Snow boarder team

Paralympic Snowboarder

Professional Paralympic snowboarder James Barnes-Miller always opts for DFDS ferry travel to help keep his passion alive.

James is constantly heading up one mountain or another, be that in the Alps, the Pyrenees, or elsewhere and “due to the amount of kit we need it’s always easiest to travel by ferry”.

There’s a lot of long drives, too, and for James ferry travel “breaks up the journey and gives me time to relax”.

The team love getting a filling hot meal onboard, and “finding somewhere comfy to have a little sleep”.

We love helping James and his team take their passion across the continent and for him, there is no other choice than ferry!

DFDS have worked with wildlife charity ORCA for over 10 years, with education on marine life conservation at the forefront of our work.

Our wildlife mini cruises on our Newcastle-Amsterdam ferry crossing have helped raise awareness in our local aquatic life through documentaries, lectures and wildlife watching.

Our passengers have had the once in a lifetime opportunity of spotting dolphins, whales and porpoise from our decks. Ensuring a passion in marine life is so important for future generations to ensure the safety of our oceans, and that’s something DFDS take very seriously.

Our onboard ORCA team is also growing, and this year our passengers travelling from Newhaven to Dieppe will also be able to enjoy our award winning marine programme on selected departures.

North Sea Sounds

North Sea Sounds

Our music cruise, North Sea Sounds is winner of a Journal Culture Award and the event has seen headliners such as Martha Reeves and the Vandellas, Craig Charles and Peter Hook and the Light.

The excitement continues this year with Level 42 headlining the show! This mini cruise, which includes up to 5 hours in Amsterdam, is perfect for anyone with a passion for music and proves that, no matter where you are, you can bring the party with you.

Vintage Cars

When the Dutch vintage car club Tour Ecosse were looking to head over to the United Kingdom on our Amsterdam-Newcastle route with their extraordinary automobiles, we said, “We would love to help!”

After our crew helped them carefully load their cars onboard our PRINCESS Seaways ship, they enjoyed smooth sailing before embarking on the short drive to Scotland from our port in Newcastle.
