Events in France
France is famed for its food, wine, art and history so it certainly has plenty to offer, and the French love to show this off. One of the biggest events in the French calendar is Bastille Day, which celebrates the uprising of modern France. For any sports fans The Tour de France is the world’s most famous cycling competition, and a great event for cyclists and spectators alike. For those who want to rub shoulders with the stars, The Cannes Film Festival is a must. There are also plenty of food, wine and arts and craft festivals that you can look up while you’re there.
Events in Germany
Germany boasts the biggest beer festival in the world, Munich’s famous Oktoberfest. If you like beer and sausages or just sitting back and taking in the atmosphere, this is an event not to be missed. Lovers of classical music will love Bach Fest in Leipzig, one of Germany’s best-known music festivals dedicated to the works of composer Johann Sebastian Bach. If you’re planning a trip to Berlin, why not try and coincide it with the Carnival of Cultures? Most famous for its colourful procession and large open air concerts, which cater to every genre of musical taste.
Events in Holland
King’s Day is Holland’s largest event and takes place annually on the 27th April. You’ll find street markets, live music everywhere and lots of dancing and partying. Everyone dresses up in orange too, so if you’re planning on attending make sure you pack your brightest attire! Holland is also famous for its wonderfully colourful tulips and spring is the best time to visit for its many annual flower festivals and parades. For anyone planning a visit in winter, Maastricht’s famous Christmas markets are a treat for adults and children alike and you can even go ice-skating in the town square.
Events in Belgium
Belgium is noted for the number of top festivals and carnivals that take place all year round including celebrations of the arts, music, film, history, and even beer. Each June, the historic Battle of Waterloo is re-enacted on the field of Waterloo and visitors flock from all over the world to see this historical event re-imagined. For those of you with a sweet tooth, the Chocolate Festival of Mons is one of Europe’s most acclaimed chocolate festivals where you can sample some of Belgium’s world famous gourmet chocolate.
