Festivals In Holland
Festivals in Holland tend to be mainly focused around dance and electronic music, with superstar DJs taking the stage. Best of all, Holland is quite a compact country so they are all easily accessible from our IJmuiden port. Or if you are travelling from Dover to France, Holland is under 3 hours from Dunkirk.
The Flying Dutch
This cool, niche dance music festival takes place in June across 3 different locations of Amsterdam, Eindhoven and Rotterdam. The Flying Dutch festival sees DJs play 3 separate sets, one at each venue. Recent headliners include Afrojack, Fedde le Grand, Armin Van Buuren and Nicky Romero, with a further range supporting sure to attract dance music fans.
Lowlands Festival takes place in mid-August in Biddinghuizen, just 90 minutes’ drive from IJmuiden. Lowlands is far more than just a music festival, with everything from comedy to film to street theatre and dance. Recent headliners include Muse, Jack Garratt and Jake Bugg, so fans of rock, pop and electronic music are well catered for here.

This festival takes place towards the end of August, with a range of dance genres represented, sure to appeal to fans of electronic music.
North Sea Jazz
While most of these festivals are based on electronic music, it’s also worth mentioning North Sea Jazz, which takes places in Rotterdam at the beginning of July. It’s not just a jazz festival, though, you will also find acts such as Earth, Wind and Fire, Pharell Williams and Simply Red all performing too!
The fittingly named Best Kept Secret festival is one of Holland’s premier indie and alternative rock festivals, with a fantastic line-up every year. The festival takes place in mid-June at Beekse Bergen in Hilvarenbeek, near Eindhoven, which is easily accessible by car. Defqon1 festival is a niche dance event in Holland, but be warned it’s not for the faint-hearted! With a range of top hardstyle and hardcore techno acts, it’s a weekend which will batter the senses and is strictly for seasoned partygoers. Defqon1 takes place towards the end of June each year.
Best festivals to combine with a holiday
If you’ve always planned on paying a visit to Amsterdam, then there’s no better time than during October, when the annual Amsterdam Dance Event (or ADE) takes place. One of the world’s biggest dance music festivals, ADE sees events, conferences and performances all over the city and has the honour of announcing the top 10 DJs in the world too! Luminosity Beach Festival brings a slice of Ibiza trance to Bloemendaal aan Zee each summer, towards the end of June, as it takes over one of Holland’s most famous beaches for a weekend of partying.
