Museums in Europe
Europe is dripping in history and culture, and whichever country you visit you can find some of the best museums in the world. From huge buildings filled with ancient antiquities and world renowned art work to smaller, intimate museums displaying collections of household objects, Europe has them all in abundance.
DFDS has four ferry routes into Europe, making it easy to explore this diverse continent. It also means you can take your vehicle to discover its delights at your own pace.
A trip to France wouldn’t be complete without visiting one of its world class museums. With just over 1,000 museums in the country, wherever you go you’ll find the traditional and the bizarre, from ancient history and modern art to clothing, jewellery and even handbags. It could take a lifetime to visit them all but be sure to see at least a few while you’re visiting this fascinating country.
Germany boasts an impressive collection of museums and Berlin even has an island dedicated to them. Germany has an astonishing 6,250 museums, which cover an incredible range of subjects, including art, history, technology, architecture, literature and the natural world.
If you’re planning a trip to Holland, you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to great museums and art galleries. In Amsterdam you’ll find the world-class Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum amongst many others, but outside the capital you’ll find many wonderful musuems and attractions such as Het Loo Palace and the Kröller-Müller Museum. The Dutch have made it really easy too with their fantastic Holland Pass.
It may be one of the smaller European countries but it still has a lot to offer in the way of museums. Brussels alone hosts over 80 museums covering art, history, literature, folklore, sciences and technology. There’s even a museum of underpants (I kid you not) which proudly presents underwear worn by Belgian celebrities including the minister of Foreign Affairs and the Mayor of Brussels.
